My mum had an old Hoover Keymatic front loading washing machine for over 25 yrs before it gave up the ghost. Her new one is a cold fill washer but she cant understand why if it takes twice as long to go through its cycle, how can it possibly be more efficient? On a 40 degree wash her old washer took 45 minutes, the new one takes 2 hours and 20minutes. Can anybody explain why it takes over twice as long and yet is apparantly more efficient ?

Why is my hot water turning brown once the hot water has run out?

It doesn’t happen until the hot water has all been used and it starts to run cold(rare, 40 gal. tank). If I turn it off and let it reheat, once the pipe has a chance to clear, it comes out clear again.

How is hot water different from cold water in terms of clothes shrinking in the wash? What is it about hot water that makes them shrink?

Is there a domestic dishwasher available with both hot and cold water feeds?

We have constant hot water from a Rayburn, so it doesn’t make sense to use a dishwasher that heats its water from cold. The hot water is sometimes nearly boiling, but most manufacturers specify 65º max. Is there a machine that can take really hot water for washing, and has a cold water feed for prewashing and rinsing?

How hot does the air in a clothes dryer get?

Amangela asked:

How high is the temperature in a clothes dryer on average?? I did a search but came up with nothing helpful. My son has lice and I was curious as to whether the temperature gets hot enough to kill the nasty buggers or if I really have to wash all the clothes and bedding in hot water. I read somewhere that it has to maintain a temp of at least 130 farenheit for 20 minutes to kill them. Are dryers hotter than that?
All I really want to know is how hot the dryer gets… can anyone tell me or do I have to take it’s temperature?
